Durlston Country Pak

The park has a new Visitor Centre and well worth a look around. It is the re-furbished Castle and has had great reviews since it opened.

It is easy to find by following the brown Leisure signs as you enter Swanage.

It is a Nature Reserve and the old Visitor Centre iw now an Education Centre where is has a host of facts about the area and there is a choice of signed walks.

The Park also hosts the Anvil Point lighthouse.

All the best for 2012.

Rngstead Bay walk

A low level of cloud but a very pleasant walk with no rain. Good views of Portland and Weymouth with a good stop at Ringstead café.

We started at South Down, along the coastal path, up to Spring Bottom and back along the fields.

The Smugglers at Osmington Mills was excellent again for our lunch afterwards.

The last walk of the year will be at 11 on Sunday 4 December to Houns Tout and down into Chapman's Pool. Lunch and mulled wine etc. at The Scott Arms afterwards.

Portland walk, 9 October

A bright , clear, although a little breezy walk.

We started on the west side of the island at Southwell Park and went down past the Coastguard Lookout, around Portland Bill and Pulpit Rock before heading up the east side to Church Ope Cove, Rufus Castle remains and the remains of St Andrews Church.

We then cut across the island to the Coast Path before returning to the cars.

This was followed by excellent sandwiches at The Heights Hotel with its great views along the Fleet and across Portland Harbour and Weymouth Bay.

The next walk is around Ringstead Bay on Sunday 30th with lunch at The Smugglers Inn at Osmington Mills.

Dancing Ledge, Sunday11th

Although having been predicted as being very wet, it didn't happen and we had a great walk from Langton Matravers, along the Ridgeway and down to Dancing Ledge.

Although a little breezy, it was not a problem and we had great views along to Seacombe Cliffs and along towards Swanage whilst having the picturesque Nine Barrow Down and Ballard Down to the north.

We then moved inland, through Langton Matravers, giving great views across Swanage and Ballard Down in one direction and valley views up to Corfe Castle.

After the walk, we had an excellent lunch at Kingston Country Courtyard just along the road - cream teas, pasties and jacket potato were just some of the things on offer.

The next walk is Portland on 9 October.

Golden Cap walk

Another great day as we set off from Langdon Hill to visit the highest point on the South Coast of the UK.

It's a shady start in the great woods and then down past the National Trust offices and down to St Gabriels, a lovely NT holiday cottage.

We then walked past the ruins of the Chapel and up to Golden Cap itself giving great views right along the coast with Lyme Regis to the west and Seatown and beyond to the east.

We returned to the car and then onto Felicity's excellent Farm Shop and Café on the edge of Morcombelake.

The next walk is Sunday 11 September - 11:45 for 12. Dancing Ledge and great views of Corfe Castle and Swanage Steam Railway await us as well as lunch/tea at Kingston Country Courtyard afterwards.

Swanage is also hosting the Folk Festival, Swanage Railway Steam Gala and the Vintage Car Rally that weekend. So much to do so come and join us.
